The Groundswell Collective
(4 minute read)...Â
What is the Groundswell Collective?
Let me start with what we desire. Then who we are. And finally what we do. By the end you’ll know if this is a fit for you or not.
Â
People like us went into business for ourselves, not because we always dreamed of being an entrepreneur, but because we followed our heart to make an impact. We wanted the freedom and flexibility that having our own business provided.
Â
And now that we’re in our business, we often feel the weight of the work and responsibility. I’ve been in business for myself for 20 years. At first it was exciting. But over time, I felt the weight of going it alone.
Â
I’m a better version of myself when I’m around others who are on a similar path, that like to have deep conversations about business and life. Who are engaged in growing their business and expanding their impact.
Â
It was hard for me to find that in the world. There were places I could go to network my business. But they lacked the depth I desired. And there were spiritual places I could go to feed my soul but most were too limiting to the way I think about spirit and life and many of the people there weren’t entrepreneurs.
Â
I didn’t have a place where I could go as a spiritual person to talk about my business and the impact I wanted to make. My family didn’t really get it. My friends didn’t get it. But every now and then I would find others like me who had a heart to make the world a better place, had gone into business for themselves, and often felt like the world’s business advice didn’t fit who they were. I loved these interactions only to go back to doing my Important Work... alone.Â
Â
I wanted a place where we could all continue our conversations and connections. Deepen our relationships and resource one another. So I created the Groundswell Collective knowing that if I found the others, we could walk each other home in our Important Work, providing Inspired conversations and spaces that accelerate our income, impact and inspiration. This is what we desire.
Â
So who are we?
We are business owners who believe the world could be behaving better. We see things we think would make the world better, like love, empathy, leadership, kindness, collaboration, understanding. We have ideas and projects we’re working on that can be the change we want to see in the world.
Â
We are spiritual seekers. Curious. Insightful. Great listeners. We love to encourage others. We hold space for wisdom to emerge. We are connectors and emerging leaders. We are go getters and want to be productive in our business and impact. We are courageous in following our heart and staying true to ourselves, even when that’s not easy or gets misunderstood.
Â
Our courage has led us into a journey that often feels alone and misunderstood. Sometimes we don’t even understand it ourselves. And in a world that craves perfection, predictability and certainty, we often feel the opposite. If it weren’t for our resolve and commitment to our path, we would have quit long ago.
Â
We know we’re on the path of something important, even if we don’t always have the words to describe it. Because we see things differently, describing what we’re building rarely fits in a one liner or sound bite.
Â
We also know that there is more to explore about what we’re building. But because most haven’t seemed to get it, we reserve our exploration to the books we read, the journal entries we write and the occasional event of conference we go to. We might even have guests on our podcasts, but the connection and relationship doesn't go any further.
Â
Which brings me to what we do.
As a broad stroke, we’re walking each other home in our businesses and impact. We’re all smart, well read and emotionally intelligent humans. We’re all self-starters and motivated individuals. But even the most determined soul can get lost on their path. We get tired. We get confused. It’s easy to feel lost and lose momentum. Being the change you want to see in the world, when the world is content to just stick with the status quo, is exhausting. And it’s not that you can’t rally yourself to show up. If you’re like us, you do rally and you do show up. But what we’ve noticed is that when we’re around others like us, we show up in a higher vibration. But until now, it’s been hard to find those high vibe humans in business out to change the world.
Â
If I put some specifics on what we do I’d narrow it down to four things. We do Clarity. We do Momentum. We do Community. And we do Action (often informed by better plans).
Â
Clarity, in my experience, is not a one time thing. It often feels like a moving target. And it helps to have well read, authentic and emotionally intelligent people to help clarify our world. That could include clarifying our strategies and our plans. Or it could be clarifying our perspectives and our practices. Having others in the Groundswell Collective who are on a similar path gives you perspective you can’t access on your own or at the local chamber.
Â
Momentum is invaluable. Without it we’re left to a limited energy tank of determination and will power. If you’re wired like us, you know you experience more energy and more momentum when you’re in proximity to others who are on their path of purpose. I can be tired or in a funk in the morning and after a Groundswell session I’m back in the flow. Momentum helps us get to where we’re going faster than if we go it alone.
Â
Community is about connecting with others on a similar path. For some, they expand their network of conscious business people by being a part of the Groundswell Collective. For others, it’s the exchange of ideas and comparing notes of what’s working and what’s not that makes community valuable. For us, community is about the depth of relationship we experience together as we walk our work home. It makes the journey more fun and worthwhile.
Â
Action is self explanatory but needs to be addressed. We’re already action oriented, but sometimes our actions are out of alignment. It’s easy to get in the weeds when you’re pioneering a new path or leading a bigger conversation in the world. I love that the Groundswell Collective is committed to having conversations about and operating from actions that continue to move us in the direction of our impact. Plus it’s fun to be surrounded by others who are also taking massive action.
Â
This is what we do. This is what we’re up to.
Â
As for How we do that, it looks like masterminding, breakout sessions, trainings, hot seats, guests. The usual fair. But what makes it effective is the spirit in which we do it and who we do it with. Our primary structure is a weekly zoom which allows you to meet others and expand your network around the US and Canada. This weekly rhythm keeps us engaged so we don’t lose momentum.
Â
All the conversations we have in the Groundswell Collective serve our intentions for Clarity, Momentum, Community and Action.
